We remember those who served and those who never came home, starting with our namesake.

Support

We stand with veterans, active-duty service members and their families when they need help.

Community

Our hall is a gathering place for the village, for fellowship, events and service.

Our Namesake: George Fisher McBane

George F. McBane (1894–1918)

George Fisher McBane was born April 13, 1894, in East Liverpool, Ohio. He grew up in East Palestine, went to the local schools and graduated from high school. When the nation called for men during World War I, he enlisted in the Army, serving as a Private in the 104th Infantry Regiment, 26th Division. Shortly before leaving for training camp he married Miss Ethel Hunston. After only a brief training period he was sent overseas for active service.

George died on October 25, 1918, of wounds received in action in the Argonne Forest in France. He is remembered as East Palestine’s first casualty of World War I.

His body was brought home, and on September 15, 1921, the East Palestine Daily Leader reported that thousands of citizens turned out for his burial, “a spontaneous tribute, the equal of which has never been witnessed in East Palestine.” He rests in Glenview Cemetery, East Palestine. Our Post proudly carries his name.
